Back in the olden days, when incandescent lighting was all we had, dimming our light was fun!
In fact, dimming incandescent lights just makes the filament glow warmer, bringing down the kelvins from 2400K to 1800K. But; we are stuck with the age-old problems of excessive power consumption, fire hazards and delicate filaments. We have come a long way in 100 years!
My name is Burton Vargas-Chambers. I started in the film industry 20+ years ago, first as a PA, then a grip, and finally a gaffer and lighting designer. Since I have moved back to the Bay Area from LA, I have worked on a bunch of projects including; Matrix 2 and 3, Rent, Pursuit of Happiness, Transformers, The Hulk, San Andreas, Terminator Genesis, 13 reasons, Sense 8 and Chance.
During those years lighting for film and television, I learned to create emotions with lights and used dimmers occasionally to achieve the desired look. The one draw back in the film world was that dimming an incandescent changes the color temperature in kelvins. In some cases, the director of photography or gaffer is looking to reduce the amount of lumens without changing the color. This can be done by moving the light away from the subject or with scrims and/or ND filters.
Most people in their homes and restaurants don’t have access to these film tricks and have to rely heavily on dimming their lights to adjust the ambience of the room.
Ever since the invasion of CFLs and more recently LEDs, dimming has become a relentless problem, and continues to be, to this day. Needing special dimmers installed or buying LEDs that flicker and turn green when dimmed plague the industry and discourage home/restaurant decor designers from even considering LEDs for their project.
These days, many designers are willing to forgo LEDs altogether, and install vintage style Edison incandescent bulbs despite the high costs, ecological impacts, heat, and bulb replacement rate. Owners are stuck with the high costs to achieve the desired atmospheric look.
The days of compromise are over! Burton Lighting Inc. has been working with LED driver engineers to address these specific issues!
The Burton Bulb features True Color Dimming which dims at the same color temperature and stays the same color. The Burton Bulb also features Flicker-less LED technology that eliminates flicker while being dimmed.
You can go back to NOT worrying about special LED dimmers or headache inducing flicker! The Burton Bulb takes you back to the olden days when you could just plug it in and adjust the light to the most romantic setting! Grrr!
